Good morning. Many of you may have heard by now that the Montana State Library Commission (an organization with a prior history of homophobic behavior) has pulled out of the American Library Association, because ALA's current President Emily Drabinski has tweeted that she is a "Marxist lesbian". MSLC's statement was the usual farrago of hateful prejudice and nonsense.
But what is more disturbing is that a government association, one centered on libraries, is publicly distancing itself from a queer librarian, in large part BECAUSE she is queer. This is a disturbing development for the information profession, as well as for the larger American society.
Supporters of Emily are circulating a letter of support for signatures - you can find the link below if you're interested. One need not be a resident of Montana, nor work in a Capital *L* library, either.
Thanks,
Jeremy Brett
