I proposed as session through the online form and never heard a word. Now I find that leadership is recommending getting a session organized by communicating with other members via the online "Let's talk archives!" forum.

My proposed session title: "The Need for Speed: The Pros and Cons of Streamlined Archival Processing." My own portion of the sessions is to take my personal experience of processing a sizeable collection in just 4 months, what we at the University of Texas at Arlington Special Collections generally referred to as the "Santa Fe Railroad Collection." This collection consisted of Santa Fe Railroad land records and netted records that are contained in nearly 300 manuscript boxes, 2 dozen oversized boxes, and more than 1,200 separate maps.

If you have a recent experience in applying the essentials of Greene and Meissner's More Product/Less Process to a sizeable and significant archival collection and are interested in sharing your experience with the project, I'd like to hear from you.

Let me start over.  I've been living in a fog with too much on my mind. I'm trying to get an early start on the 2015 SSA Conference to be held in the DFW area (now that I know I'm way too late for the deadline for 2014).

I have presented at 2 previous conferences, El Paso in 2006, and Santa Fe in 2010.

I'm also checking in to see if anyone else wants to form a session for the 2015 SSA Conference in Arlington. The presentation I'd like to propose is a survey and assessment of recent copyright resources that offer (or at least are intended to offer) practical assistance to cultural heritage professionals, particularly in relation to digitization projects.

I don't necessarily envision all three papers in the panel  having to do with copyright, rather I would think that all of them would focus on different ways in which recent trends or issues are significantly changing the traditional cycle of archival practice. I know that sounds pretty broad, but I'm not sure how else to approach this. I'm open to any ideas!

    Leslie,

Please submit the proposal form under "Events" (along the top of the page) on this website to me at mmmanning@uh.edu.

If you found a form online elsewhere, please let me know where you found it.  I never received a proposal from you.

    Sorry for any inconvenience

    Sincerely, Mary

    Leslie,

Could you change the name of this thread to "Session proposals for 2015 conference"  if you are able to?

    Thanks!   Mary
