Architecture in the Archives: Arrangement and Description
Chair: Amanda Focke, Rice University
Panelists will discuss the issues relating to managing architectural collections in the archives. The
first part of the session will discuss developing the workflow related to collections of architectural
realia: processing, storing, and displaying materials; metadata creation; digitization and creation of
online exhibits; and development of a catalog with the highlights of the collection holdings. The
second part of the session will discuss how architectural collections often require a unique blend of
museum and archival standards to strike the right balance of access and intellectual control
(project level and folder level). The third session on the Mayan holdings at the Alexander
Architectural Archive address the George F. and Geraldine D. Andrews papers that reflect historic
documentation of Maya architecture and related art. This session will discuss the similarities and
differences in approaches to providing access.
